First Home Buyers
What is the First Home Owner Grant in SA?
Short answer
The SA First Home Owner Grant is $15,000 for first home buyers building or buying a new home valued under $650,000. You must live in the home for at least 6 continuous months within 12 months of settlement. It stacks with other schemes including the Federal Home Guarantee Scheme (5% deposit) and SA stamp duty concessions on new builds. Apply through your conveyancer at settlement, not before.

In this episode, we break down the government’s First Home Buyer Deposit Scheme updates kicking off in October 2025. We cover who qualifies, the property price caps, and how the scheme impacts loans, eligibility, and the wider housing market - plus one major cost the government hasn’t addressed.
