What is a knockdown rebuild?
Short answer
A knockdown rebuild (KDR) is when you demolish an existing home and build a new one on the same block. In Adelaide it makes sense when the block is worth keeping (established suburb, mature trees, good orientation) but the existing home is beyond cost-effective renovation. Total cost is typically $500K-$900K including demolition ($15-30K), rebuild, site costs and finance holding costs.
