Where to Place the Master Bedroom in an Adelaide Home
The master bedroom is usually the largest single room in the home. Its position affects privacy, noise, morning light, how close the kids are, and how the plan is read from the street. There is no single right answer in Adelaide, but there are four common patterns and each has clear trade-offs.

Pattern 1: master at the front of the home
Common on Adelaide project-builder plans. Master faces the street, secondary bedrooms sit deeper in the plan, living zone at the rear. Works if the street is on the south (master gets a cooler, more private aspect) and if you prefer being away from kids at night. Downsides: street noise, front-yard sight lines, and the front elevation gets taken up by a bedroom window rather than a living room.

Pattern 2: master at the rear opening onto the yard
Master shares the rear-yard aspect with the living area. Great on a north-facing rear block: morning sun into the bedroom, private outlook away from the street. Downsides: master and living compete for the same north wall (harder to plan), and the bedroom sits close to the alfresco entertaining zone which can be a noise trade-off.

Pattern 3: master upstairs in a double-storey plan
The whole first floor becomes an adult zone: master, walk-in robe, ensuite, sometimes a sitting nook. Kids sleep downstairs (or vice versa). Strongest zoning of the four patterns. Downsides: stairs at 3am for a glass of water, and the block layout has to earn its extra floor.

Pattern 4: master at one end, kids at the other, single-storey
Long thin single-storey plan with a "parents' wing" at one end and a "kids' wing" at the other separated by the living zone. Strongest single-storey zoning. Popular in Adelaide greenfield estates with wider blocks. Downsides: the plan gets long which pushes external walls out and can compromise passive-solar orientation.

The noise question
Whichever pattern you choose, walk-through where sound will travel. TV in the living wall shared with the master headboard? Alfresco speakers directly outside the master window? Ensuite backing onto the guest bedroom? Ask for acoustic insulation in shared walls even if it is not standard, especially between the master and any wet areas or living zones.

The sun and privacy question
Best-case master orientation in Adelaide is south-east or east so it stays cooler and gets soft morning sun. Worst case is a west-facing master with unshaded glass: it will be uncomfortably hot every summer afternoon. If your block forces west, use smaller high windows, external shutters or a deep verandah on that elevation.
